CO's Parade (Oct 1st)
Hello Cadets,
Below are the announcements for this week. Please read this email along with the respective attachments in their entirety. This Thursday will consist of regular training and the Commanding Officer's (CO) parade, the dress will be C1 (Blue Dress Uniform with shirt and tie), or white shirt and black pants, if your cadet has not been issued C5. Cadets are always to bring with them a water bottle, a notebook, and a pen/pencil to take notes during their training. A reminder that doors will open at 6:30 pm to cadets. Please ensure that your cadets do not arrive earlier than this time.
At the end of the evening, doors will open to parents at 8:55 pm for our final announcements for the evening, and cadets will be dismissed at 9:20.
FALL FUNDRAISING WEEKEND (OCT 2-4)
Tag Days are a vital part of the fundraising that helps keep your cadet’s program running at no cost to you. While we do receive some financial assistance from the Department of National Defense, the funds raised through our tagging events are an essential component of our annual budget.
Your support is critical to making this event a success. As a parent, you play a pivotal role in ensuring your cadet's attendance by providing transportation to and from the tagging headquarters, as well as to their assigned tagging location along with supervising your cadet at their assigned location.
Cadet Participation: Every cadet is expected to aim to complete at least one shift during the tagging weekend (see dates below). Cadets who volunteer for two consecutive shifts (AM/PM) will be provided with a per-diem allowance for lunch. If your cadet is not able to attend, please consider an OPTIONAL donation of $100. Although the program is free and no donation is expected, we rely on donations to continue to provide a program beyond the scope of what the government provides. A charitable tax receipt will be provided for this contribution.
Dress Code
[C3– Blue Dress Uniform (no medals, no nametag), weather-appropriate outerwear, black gloves if cold, etc.] [C5 Green Field Training Uniform if cadet does not have C3] or white shirt, black pants if cadet has no C5 or C3 dress.
Shifts
FRI OCT 2 - 5-8:30 PM
SAT OCT 3- 8:30-1 PM and/or 12:30- 5 PM
SUN OCT 4- 8:30 - 1PM and/or 12:30- 5PM
Cadets still bring in their forms this Thursday. If your cadet is unable to return a form they are still able to attend any shift. The forms are to give us a number of the expected turnout. Every shift counts and every cadet's contribution to this effort helps in a significant way.
DRILL TEAM PRACTICE
Drill team practice begins this Wednesday. Please refer to more information on TEAMS. Dress is civilian attire, and this activity is open to all cadets. Participation in the drill team provides cadets with an opportunity to make new friends, develop strong attention-to-detail skills and discipline, while learning cool precision drill that will be displayed at an area-wide competition and at the local squadron. All cadets are highly encouraged to participate. It is important to note that when the competition season approaches, the team will consist of 15 cadets that will be selected through tryouts based on their execution of all drill movements taught during the earlier practices.
ANNUAL VALIDATION FORMS
Returning cadets that have not yet been in on our administration nights on either September 3rd or September 10th to complete the annual validation forms are asked to do so this Thursday. Cadets under the age of 18 must have a parent/guardian fill out this form. This is done to ensure that the information that we have on file for your cadet is the most up-to-date. This only takes around 2 minutes to do and can be done at the beginning of the evening between 6:30 pm and 7 pm at dropoff. The forms will be available upon arrival at the attendance table. Failure to complete this form within the required deadline may result in your cadet being struck off strength from the unit.
GLIDING FAMILIARIZATION DAY (SAT OCT 10)- 10 CADETS ONLY
27 RCACS will participate in a gliding familiarization activity on Saturday October 10th. Please refer to TEAMS for more information. Depending on weather conditions and other factors, it is possible that the return may be earlier than 1700 hrs. Parents/guardians will be contacted if this is the case. Dress is civilian attire. Cadets are to ensure they are dressed for the weather as the majority of the day will be spent outdoors. The list on TEAMS has been selected at random from the entire squadron with priority to cadets in proficiency levels 1 and 2. We understand that many cadets that were previously listed to attend in the past have not gone up; however, with the extensive list we now have of cadets that are yet to participate in a familiarization flight, random selection is our best means to ensure fair selection for all cadets. If your cadet's name is on the list, but is not available to attend, you must inform Capt Amoah ASAP in order to allow someone else to be registered.
FALL FIELD TRAINING EXERCISE (OCT 17-18)
27 RCACS will participate in an Aircrew Survival training exercise as part of the required elemental training program. Cadets will participate in activities that develop competency in survival skills in the field. Please refer to TEAMS for more information. Cadets are required to eat breakfast prior to being dropped off on Saturday. Cadets must bring their health card and personal kit as per the provided kit list. Meals will be provided over the course of the activity. Cadets with outstanding medical verifications will not be able to participate. Dress will be C5 (Field Training Uniform) or weather-appropriate civilian physical activity attire if no C5.
CANADIAN HARVARD AIRCRAFT ASSOCIATION VISIT (SAT OCT 24TH)
27 RCACS has been invited to participate in a visit of the Harvard Aircraft Association on Saturday Oct 24th. Cadets will have the opportunity to see the various models of Harvard Aircraft which have a history that dates back to the Second World War. Signups for this activity will take place this Thursday. Timings will be confirmed in a subsequent email. Transportation will not be provided to and from. Transportation will be via parental dropoff/pickup. Please refer to TEAMS for more information
ABSENCE REPORTING AND ATTENDANCE
If your cadet is unable to attend a training night, please ensure that an absence report form is filled out to excuse their absence. It is important to note that once a cadet has been absent for over 30 days without an excused absence (4 consecutive weeks of unexcused absences), they will be removed from the effective strength of the unit. The absence report form can be found here: https://forms.office.com/r/dRVZ6q3QDB
CADET365, ROUTINE ORDERS, CHAIN OF COMMAND
It is important that your cadet is checking their Cadet365 Outlook and Microsoft Teams regularly to ensure they are receiving the most up-to-date information. Each week, weekly routine orders (see attachment for your reference) will be distributed via their cadet email detailing the upcoming week's training along with any additional information for upcoming events and activities. It is expected that ALL cadets read this document. If they have difficulty accessing their account, please reach out via email to the Administration department (27air@cadets.gc.ca) as soon as account access issues are encountered.
It is important that cadets begin to take the initiative to read communications and communicate with their superiors when they have questions. Each cadet has been added to a flight which has a senior cadet in charge. They can communicate with their flight seniors via their designated flight Microsoft Teams channel, which they have been added to. This ensures streamlined communication channels and efficient responses to questions, issues or concerns. Cadets should not be reaching out to adult staff directly to seek answers to minor questions or information that is addressed in the routine orders or can easily be answered by their senior cadet in charge. Communications of this nature from cadets will not be responded to but rather redirected to the appropriate level in their chain of command.
Parents are always encouraged and able to reach out if they have questions or concerns; however, we encourage you to give your cadet the responsibility of staying informed, clarifying information using their chain of command and keeping you informed, as it is an important life skill they should be developing that will serve them well beyond the cadet program.
DRESS INSTRUCTIONS
For details on how to wear the uniform correctly in accordance with the set standard, cadets are required to consult the Cadets and Junior Canadian Rangers (CJCR) Dress Instructions. This should be the primary reference for what the standard is for hair, facial hair and placement of insignia and badges. If a cadet is confused by what is presented in the instructions, they can use their chain of command to direct their question to a senior cadet of the Standards department for further clarification. Dress instructions can be found here: https://www.canada.ca/en/department-national-defence/services/cadets-junior-canadian-rangers/cjcr-policy/cjcr-dress-instructions.html
