Hello Parents/Guardians & Cadets,

Below are the announcements for this week. Please read this email along with the respective attachments in their entirety. This Thursday will consist of regular training and the Commanding Officer's (CO) parade, the dress will be C1 (Blue Dress Uniform with shirt and tie), or white shirt and black pants, if your cadet has not been issued C5. Cadets are always to bring with them a water bottle, a notebook, and a pen/pencil to take notes during their training. A reminder that doors will open at 6:30 pm to cadets. Please ensure that your cadets do not arrive earlier than this time.

At the end of the evening, doors will open to parents at 8:55 pm for our final announcements for the evening, and cadets will be dismissed at 9:20.

NO BAND OR MARKSMANSHIP THIS SATURDAY

Practices for both activities will be cancelled this Saturday in order to allow cadets to participate fully in the Byron Legion Remembrance Day Parade also taking place on Saturday.

WEARING OF REMEMBRANCE DAY POPPY

The Remembrance Day poppy is authorized to be worn on all uniforms from October 24th until Remembrance Day (November 11th). The poppy is to be worn on the top centre of the rank tab of the field training uniform and on the left pocket flap of the shirt and left chest of the jacket and all-season coat. Refer to image on TEAMS for correct placement.

BYRON LEGION REMEMBRANCE DAY PARADE (SAT NOV 7)

The Byron Legion Branch 533 is our official sponsor and we support them in functions where it is appropriate for cadets to participate. This year the annual Remembrance Day Parade for the legion will be held on Saturday 7 November 2025. Cadets are asked to attend to march, form a flag party and 1 cadet is to volunteer to read "In Flanders Fields". Please refer to TEAMS for more detail. Uniform will be C1 (dress blues) for those issued, C5 (FTU greens) for those who do not have blues and white shirt with black pants for any cadets without a uniform. Bring your issued parka or a warm coat depending on the weather. The parade will be approximately 45 minutes to an hour, with refreshments in the legion following. Cadets may sign up for this parade during tonight's training night.

LONDON REMEMBRANCE CADET VIGIL (TUES NOV 10)

This year the City of London cadet vigil will be held on Tuesday November 10th.  Please refer to TEAMS for more detail. There will be participation from other London cadet units as well. Dress will be C1 (Blue Dress Uniforms). Signups will also be done this Thursday evening. There is a limit of 13 cadets for this event and cadets must be the rank of Flight Corporal and above. Selections will be confirmed this evening.

CITY OF LONDON REMEMBRANCE DAY PARADE (WED NOV 11)

This year Remembrance day is on Wednesday November 11th. Please refer to TEAMS for more information. Blue if available, then green uniform and if no uniform issued then white shirt and black pants with a coat. All cadets are expected to dress warmly and eat a full meal before attending the parade. Should you wish to wear your uniform to school for any ceremony you must first have the permission of the commanding officer who will on a case by case basis grant permission or provide reasoning why you are or are not able to wear your uniform.

ABSENCE REPORTING AND ATTENDANCE

If your cadet is unable to attend a training night, please ensure that an absence report form is filled out to excuse their absence. It is important to note that once a cadet has been absent for over 30 days without an excused absence (4 consecutive weeks of unexcused absences), they will be removed from the effective strength of the unit. The absence report form can be found here: https://forms.office.com/r/dRVZ6q3QDB

CADET365, ROUTINE ORDERS, CHAIN OF COMMAND

It is important that your cadet is checking their Cadet365 Outlook and Microsoft Teams regularly to ensure they are receiving the most up-to-date information. Each week, weekly routine orders (see attachment for your reference) will be distributed via their cadet email detailing the upcoming week's training along with any additional information for upcoming events and activities. It is expected that ALL cadets read this document. If they have difficulty accessing their account, please reach out via email to the Administration department (27air@cadets.gc.ca) as soon as account access issues are encountered.

It is important that cadets begin to take the initiative to read communications and communicate with their superiors when they have questions. Each cadet has been added to a flight which has a senior cadet in charge. They can communicate with their flight seniors via their designated flight Microsoft Teams channel, which they have been added to. This ensures streamlined communication channels and efficient responses to questions, issues or concerns. Cadets should not be reaching out to adult staff directly to seek answers to minor questions or information that is addressed in the routine orders or can easily be answered by their senior cadet in charge. Communications of this nature from cadets will not be responded to but rather redirected to the appropriate level in their chain of command.

Parents are always encouraged and able to reach out if they have questions or concerns; however, we encourage you to give your cadet the responsibility of staying informed, clarifying information using their chain of command and keeping you informed, as it is an important life skill they should be developing that will serve them well beyond the cadet program.

DRESS INSTRUCTIONS

For details on how to wear the uniform correctly in accordance with the set standard, cadets are required to consult the Cadets and Junior Canadian Rangers (CJCR) Dress Instructions. This should be the primary reference for what the standard is for hair, facial hair and placement of insignia and badges. If a cadet is confused by what is presented in the instructions, they can use their chain of command to direct their question to a senior cadet of the Standards department for further clarification. Dress instructions can be found here: https://www.canada.ca/en/department-national-defence/services/cadets-junior-canadian-rangers/cjcr-policy/cjcr-dress-instructions.html
